task 1

From the questionnaire that I made I gathered various information, I am able to make report from it. I made a very generic questionnaire for people to answer. From the first two questions I gathered that most of the people that answered where the age between 18 -19 with a percentage 54.5, this correlates to what’s your gender as it got the same percentage of 54.5 which is in favour of males. And I got the same percentage for people’s occupation which is mostly student. From the gaming question, it was mixed because it was it was multiple choice but the majority of the vote went to ps4 with a percentage of 72.7. From looking at this it’s more of a man’s world when it comes to video gaming. Meaning that because of the results that I got I can clearly see that the younger generation, mainly boys answered and that they are all up to date with the latest software and consoles, with nearly all of those who did answer they said they had every console that was listed. Those who answered gave a very mixed variation of what they’re into. The majority of the answered resulted in the categories of sport and other with the same percentage of 27.3. This is followed by survival and first person shooter that is also popular with those answered and got 18.2 percent for both options. What was most interesting was the answers that I received for a certain question, which is ‘what are your top three games and what console are they on’ and the two that kept coming up the most out of the top three were, NBA 2K, COD and GTA and these all were resulted on PS4 which came up the most. This tells me that these are some of the most popular games that commonly played by people of the younger generation. This leads directly to my next question, and I found that roughly in a day from most of those that answered, said that they play for around 3 – 4 hours in a day and they prefer to play on their own, which is why they would play for so long. Most of the games that people put as their top three were shooting games so this is why 81.8 percent of them said yes to playing shooting games. And it isn’t shocking when 63.6 percent of them said yes to if it brings out their violent side. From this I can see that this is more of a boy’s world and why they get frustrated easily when they don’t win. But some fell into denial as 36.4 percent of them said yes and the same amount of percent said no when asked if they throw a tantrum.

Even though my questionnaire is very generic, it has some questions that apply to come things like the hypodermic needle theory. Meaning that how these games are portrayed in the trailer and what they are actually like in the game, has an actual massive effect on those who play who do play these types of games, such as it gives young people a different way of thinking and acting when it comes to these violent games and can possibly affect them when they’re not playing these games. Games such as uncharted 4, gta and others can make people be seen as passive because the media has injected people into thinking what they have to and what other people have told them to do. This is because there is no other way of getting information. And these is very cleaver on the game makers behalf because they know that once they make one game like this, they know people are going to come back and get the next set of games that they bring out as young people can't resist the thrill of violent games.

Those, which is everyone, is passive. They chose to play games like uncharted 4, and have accepted the violence, the sexual content and the strong language that comes with it and has had no second thoughts about it. They primarily saw the graphics and the storyline that goes with it, which is why they ended up playing/downloading the game.

Participatory is basically those who have taken the time to do my survey and giving me primary results. There’s also those who take part in the gaming participatory, meaning that they will plays the games maybe online or just on their own and have friends join them.

With the uses and gratification theory, it tells you about most but different people and why they choose to take in different types of media. This is because the media caters for different people and it makes it easier for them to see what they like and what they're into, especially with games, and this can easily be seen by a simple advert which can determine if you're going to like it or not because of the content.

The creators of these games were very smart like I said before, when it comes to effects of advertising. They know what the audiences likes and that is very powerful. When you see the adverts for these games, they basically show you the good parts of the games, which in this case for uncharted 4 they show the storyline of when he was younger till now when he's older. It also includes some violence, and shooting parts.  This draws people in into getting the game and they're also smart in the way of where they've placed the advert, meaning it can be seen on tv, YouTube, public transport so there's no way of people getting away from it.

People who like to play video games are fully aware of what they are playing and what they are portraying but that doesn't matter to them because they think it's just a game but they are fully aware of what it's showing. These types of people are put down in the category of oppositional.

website report

Task 1 – media products & their audiences
For this task I have picked my chosen website which is Lasula.co.uk, and with this I made a questionnaire for people to answer about the simple details of the website. From the answers I have received I am able to make a report from it.
Lasula is a website that is aimed at women and sells nothing relating to men. Their audience is a range between 15 – 29. As a whole most of the people who answered my survey are 18 – 19 with a percentage of 50, 10% were 16 – 17 and 40% were 20+. This gives me the impression that most of the people that answered are in the younger generation. This relates to what gender those are from who answered it. Most of those who did were female with a 66.7% majority of the percentage, and a 33.3% of males that’s answered. From this and looking at the website it’s understandable why the majority of the results are female rather than male.
The occupation question resulted in favour of student with a percentage of 50, compared to full time job that got a percentage of 30 and part time job that got a percentage of 20. With this comes with those who have visited the website before. What I got from peoples first impressions, were very mixed. Lasula has a very simple layout to their website and is very to navigate, this is due to their drop downs as they have everything you will need to find what you are looking for. On their layout they have several things on there, such as photos that they have taken to show their products off to entice you to buy it but they also have photos that everyday people, (mostly bloggers) have taken with their product on. From those who looked at the website, 70% of them said that the website was easy to navigate. This left 30% of those saying that it was normal, okay and good to navigate.
In terms of the features, most people said the logo which was majority of the answers. This is because it’s the first thing you see and it stands out on the website even with a simple font design and colour. Most of the people liked the website, in terms of the layout, colours, font’s menus, ect, most of them said they liked the features on the website. 70% of people thought that the written text (narrative) on the website were entertaining, 20% of those thought it was unclear and the remaining 10% thought it was informative. Most of the audience said they would recommend the site to others with a 80% majority and only 20% of those said they wouldn’t recommend it to others.
